From first conversation to finished book.

A family legacy and a career milestone that made him one of the first published authors in his industry.

20+ hours

Mapping the story

Conversations, reflective questionnaires and story-mapping sessions to find why each moment mattered.

Months 2–4

Writing as him

Every chapter shaped around how he naturally speaks and what he wants his children to remember.

Month 4

A book that sounds like him

The manuscript was complete and, more importantly, it sounded like him.

The full story

The challenge

One of my earliest clients was a young entrepreneur in the gig economy who wanted to write something that would outlive him. The book wasn’t meant for the market. It was meant for his children: where he came from, the sacrifices that shaped him and the journey that led to his success.

Like many founders, he had already tried writing it himself. There were scattered documents, unfinished chapters, random notes and memories spread across multiple files. The problem wasn’t a lack of stories. It was turning decades of experience into a narrative someone would want to read, and finding someone who could write as him.

How we worked

Before writing a single chapter, I spent nearly a month understanding the person behind the story. Across more than 20 hours of conversations, reflective questionnaires and story-mapping sessions, we explored not just what happened, but why those moments mattered.

I paid close attention to how he naturally spoke, which memories carried emotional weight and which parts of his journey he wanted his children to remember long after he was gone. Only then did I begin writing.

The outcome

Four months later, the manuscript was complete. More importantly, it sounded like him. The book became a personal legacy for his family and a key career milestone, and it made him one of the first published authors in his industry.

Merlin was amazing throughout. Her attention to detail is what amazed me the most!
