How we got there

From first conversation to finished book.

Complex ideas made engaging for a wider audience, and an invitation to co-author the sequel.

Weeks 1–4

Immersion

Weeks of research into the source material and the client’s thinking.

The turning point

Changing the format

The obstacle wasn’t the content, it was the format. So we chose fiction.

The writing

A protagonist with questions

A fictional lead asks what readers would ask, turning lectures into conversations.

The outcome

An invitation to co-author

The client was delighted and invited Merlin to co-author the sequel.

The full story

The challenge

One client approached me with an unusual idea. He believed many modern concepts in artificial intelligence could be better understood through the lens of ancient Indian philosophy. The research was extensive and the ideas were fascinating.

But there was one problem. Most readers would never make it past the first few chapters if the book read like an academic paper. His challenge wasn’t proving the ideas. It was making people care enough to keep reading.

How we worked

Before writing, I spent weeks immersed in research, studying the source material and understanding his thinking in depth. It became clear the biggest obstacle wasn’t the content. It was the format. So I proposed telling the story through fiction.

A fictional protagonist asks the same questions readers naturally would, so abstract theories become conversations instead of lectures. We stayed closely aligned throughout, keeping every chapter true to his thinking while making it far more accessible.

The outcome

The finished manuscript blends fiction and non-fiction, making complex philosophical and technological ideas engaging for a much wider audience. The client was delighted, and later invited me to co-author a sequel, which I declined due to other commitments.
